AZERI GREEN ZOOM- GREEN BUILDING CERTIFICATION SYSTEM IN AZERBAIJAN
ABSTRACT
The practical tools for eco-development of the construction industry is rating systems or certification of buildings for assessing the performance of a property at the design, construction and operation stages. Gradation of certificates allows to classify and compare buildings according to their energy efficiency level. Certification helps to achieve the goals set by the state in the energy sector, namely, reducing energy consumption in buildings. Certification system Azeri Green Zoom is discussed in the article. The Azerbaijan Green Building Council (AzGBC) developed Azeri Green Zoom environmental certification system for buildings in the country. The major energy-efficient measures for first certified building are shown.

Introduction. One of the practical tools for eco-development in the construction industry is building certification systems or rating systems for assessing the performance of a property at the design, construction, and operation stages [1]. These systems are designed to evaluate the performance of a building at various stages of its life cycle and classify buildings according to their compliance with specific sustainable building standards. In other words, this is an assessment of the level of compliance of an object with certification standards, allowing it to officially be an object of green construction, certified according to one of the existing systems [2]. A multi-dimensional structure of certification systems that considers various criteria makes it possible to evaluate the resource efficiency of a building to provide its inhabitants with an appropriate level of comfort and functionality (Figure 1) [3-5]. At the same time, the level of the certificate awarded depends on many factors, including the efficiency of energy and water use, the quality of the indoor environment of the premises, the technologies used and innovations during construction, materials, environmental friendliness of the landscape, etc. Gradation of certificates allows one to classify and compare buildings according to their energy efficiency level [6]. Certification helps to achieve the goals set by the state in the energy sector, namely the reduction of energy consumption in buildings [7] and the mandatory certification of multi-apartment residential buildings put into operation from January 2024. The article will consider the Azeri Green Zoom certification system.

Methods. The task of increasing the energy efficiency of civil engineering construction projects is one of the priorities for Azerbaijan since the introduction of innovative engineering solutions helps to optimize energy resources and increase the level of environmental friendliness of real estate, reduce financial costs. The Azerbaijan Green Building Council (AzGBC) developed Azeri Green Zoom environmental certification system for buildings in the country [9].
GREEN ZOOM is a set of measures for the certification of buildings aimed at implementing the goals of sustainable development and improving the comfort of the urban environment, this is a list of practical recommendations for improving the energy efficiency, water efficiency and environmental friendliness of buildings.
Results and discussion. The first building certified to this standard is the Fairmont Baku Hotel (Figure 2). The new standard is based on the American LEED and Russian GREEN ZOOM. Hotel Fairmont Baku is located in the Flame Towers skyscraper in the capital of Azerbaijan. Based on the certification results, the hotel was rated 71 out of 90. According to the energy modeling results of the facility, the Fairmont Hotel consumes approximately 23% less energy compared to the ASHRAE standard building [10,11]. Experts have developed for the hotel about ten energy-efficient solutions that provide great savings for both the hotel and the entire high-rise complex as a whole. The sequence of processes through which certification of the building passes from initiation to completion (Figure 3).

Categories and appropriate weights in Azeri Green Zoom are: indoor environment quality, energy efficiency and reduction harmful emissions in atmosphere, water efficiency, site ecology, site location and linkages and transportation, materials and waste management, innovations, local issues, analysis of the project on the design level.
The following major energy-efficient measures and state of the art technologies that were used in the hotel Fairmont Baku are:
- apply of local certified construction materials;
- apply of energy-efficient glazing with low heat transfer coefficient about 1.1 W/(m2K);
- use of efficient engineering installations;
- provide by climate control system;
- supply air conditioning system by heat recovery with energy- efficient coefficient 0.75;
- use of fourth generation VRV system for cooling;
- use of heating boilers for heating technologies with energy efficiency more than 90%;
- apply of energy-efficient elevators;
- provide efficient LED daylight with lifespan 34000 hours;
- use of artificial lighting with detection sensors;
- apply of parking fan control by CO sensors;
- use of energy-efficient water fixtures;
- bicycle paths are used;
- close to bus stops;
- for irrigation near vegetation, condensate from the chiller-fan coil system is used.
All energy-efficient measures have been reduced operation cost by 26% in comparison with standard building.
Conclusion. The main task of green building is to reduce the level of consumption of energy and material resources throughout the entire life cycle of a building: from site selection for design, construction works, operation to its repair and demolition. Such construction, largely based on energy efficiency, has become one of the key modern trends [14]. There are two international green certification systems in the world - BREEAM and LEED which determine the compliance of an object with certain criteria, such as electricity and water consumption, quality of management, provision of indoor and outdoor comfort (lighting, noise, etc.), territorial location, waste management, etc [15].
In order to conserve natural resources for future generations today, it becomes obligatory to develop the national certification system further. Although it is one of the ways to design energy-efficient eco- friendly buildings Green building certification process in Azerbaijan is undergoing very slowly. There is significant potential for developing energy-efficient construction.
"Green construction" in Azerbaijan is developing slowly. An important point for the implementation of "green" construction projects is the goal of the construction customer himself. It is the customer of the object, in addition to marketing opportunities to attract the buyer, who must realize that his place in the market will largely depend on the readiness to completely switch to the use of energy-saving technologies in the next few years.
