Introduction
A development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies has increased intensively over the world. Researchers, translators, and teachers have paid more attention to the practical training of translation using innovative technologies like Neural Machine Translation (NMT), CAT tools, and other AI-powered translation tools. Therefore, the training of translators using digital technologies is necessary and has faced issues of solving problems. The term “digital education” means the introduction of digital services and technologies into the pedagogical process [1]. Using digital technologies, some instructions are required to perform actions for certain tasks using software programs. Translation tasks are involved using e-courses such as dictionaries and professional and terminological databases. Therefore, taking advantage of new technologies is an inseparable part of students, teachers, and researchers.
The development of AI such as Google Translate, ChatGPT and Deep Learning (DL) and other tools has innovated the translation quality has innovated and intensified rapidly. The concept of digitalization in translation has opened more opportunities for increasing quality and creativeness. Especially, young people aspire to use digital technologies with great interest and awareness. Students use them for translating texts. Translation technology has developed more interesting, result of it you can use on a variety of platforms. But to ensure translation consistency and accuracy, we require human post-editing. It is necessary for translation quality.
Methodology
Under comparison, we intended to determine students' usage AI including popular tools such as as Chat GPT, Google Translation, Bolor toli /Dictionary/, Deep L, results of study presented some urgent needs and requirement to use. Also, the study was to present advantages and disadvantages of AI based translation. A total of 85 students of II level were involved in the study. It is data of two years that 41-44 students participated every year. Research data was collected in December 2024 and in December 2025. Also to analyze how broadly or how long AI-powered translation tools are used in learning or in translation. Both generalization and comparison methods were applied.
Discussion and results
Using translation technology has become an important process of foreign language education at universities. The application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in translation training has led to more research, especially the development of machine translation (MT), which has translation playing an important role in teaching activities. With the increase in the use AI technology, it is required to improve the effectiveness of teaching. When using machine translation (MT), whether the original text has changed or kept its meaning is an important issue for teachers and students.
Today, the education of a potential translator includes the development of not only academic knowledge but also a wide range of professional skills, which is extremely important in the market of translation services. In turn, the translation market makes significant demands on budding experts, pointing to the need for higher education institutions to improve and abandon traditional ways of training translators [2].
We are looking for ways to combine AI translation training to use in translation practices. In fact, translation using AI technology has existed for no longer than traditional translation. So, we have to do more experiments, surveys, and research, including the advantages and disadvantages of using AI technology.
We intended to determine students' usage of AI in translation. A total of 85 students of II level were involved in the study. Also to analyze how broadly or how long AI-powered translation tools are used in learning or in translation. You can see comparative results from Figure 1.

Figure 1. Usage duration of AI Figure 2. Usage frequency of AI translation
At first, we have to determine the usage duration of AI. How long had students been using AI? It revealed that 43%–56% of the students had used AI for between 1 and 3 years. It indicates that because they were being used for educational purposes, students started to utilize smart devices and AI tools more frequently in high school and as they entered universities. 23%–27% of the students had used them for between 3 and 5 years, which means that they had used them actively from their teenage years. 34%–17% of the students had used artificial intelligence (AI) for over 5 years, so some of the students had more interest in AI tools; also, they had more opportunities to use smart devices and the Internet. The input indicates that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) among students is prevalent. Furthermore, new technologies and innovative approaches to AI tools are integral to both learning and daily life.
Figure 2 presented how actively students used AI translation tools. It revealed that 54% of the students used it always, and 43% of the students used it sometimes in 2024; 36% of the students used it always, and 72% of the students used it sometimes in 2025. Only 2% to 3% of the students have not used it for translation, indicating that they prefer to translate it on their own. Approximately 97-98% of the students actively used AI translation during class practices, with translation being necessary in every instance. This indicates that AI tools were an integral part of both learning and everyday life.

Figure 3. Popular platforms, apps and IT tools
Figure 3 showed it. ChatGPT and Google Translate were used more frequently than other tools and apps. According to the study, participants had used Google translation in 2024, it is decreased by 10% in 2025. Also, users of ChatGPT had increased by 8% in 2025, so students have preferred use it rather than Google translation. It presented that usage of ChatGPT was more popular among the young people. 23-24% of the students have chosen other AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Translation, Bolor toli /Dictionary/, Deep L, Gengo, X Translate etc... Totally, all students had used IT technologies for translation. As a result, educators are now integrating these technologies into their curricula to better prepare students for a tech-driven world.
Why do students prefer to use various AI tools and technologies? Living in the digitalization of education, we have to pay attention to it. It showed the next Figure 4.

Figure 4. Advantage of AI translation Figure 5. Disadvantage of AI translation
We intended to reveal the main reasons. According to the survey, 61%-70% of students used AI translation tools to save time, so they are important in this busy digital era. Students report relying on AI translation for quick drafting of translated notes, and instant clarification of unfamiliar vocabulary. The time savings appear to support multitasking and enabling students to process more material in less time. Therefore, it was an essential reason. 18%-11% of students said that AI translation was easy to translate and use. This percentage dropped by 7%, indicating that students are refusing to take the simple route. 21%-19% of students noted that they had other reasons such as interesting, suggesting other versions and helping to translate.
On other hand, there were disadvantages of use AI translation. It was presented Figure 5 above mentioned. 16%- 17% of the students reported that the AI translation was incorrect. 38%-24% of students pointed up poor or inaccurate word choices. 60% - 67% of the students noted that content of the text was unclear so had to edit more carefully. Although it reveals disadvantage of AI translation, they also demonstrate that students were able to recognize and address translation errors.
The materials of the second level for students include general reviews of political, economic, educational, and international fields. During translation practice lessons, the students who use it had their own experiences. They acknowledged that AI-generated translations require more revision and edition. Disadvantage of AI translation is that students should work more carefully on translation. Finally, students used AI translation actively.
AI technologies can give users more translation alternatives, improve translation speed, and remove word inconsistencies. Translating is not only conveying meaning word by word. It requires a more accurate process. As a result, students can solve problems faced during the use of AI translation. It is required to work effectively on editing translation under teachers’ experiences.
Under comparison advantages and disadvantages, results of study presented urgent needs and requirement to use AI translation. Of course, it has disadvantages including unclear meaning, incorrect equivalent and bad version of translation. It has an impact on the environment and is unsuitable for professional translation. Texts and context that emphasize national traits and cultural distinctions are not always well translated. But it has advantages including an interesting to use, give more opportunities for good translation. Additionally, AI technology has updated and innovated ever year.
The results of the study illustrated the benefits of AI translation:
- Easy way of learning and save time for translation
- Better way to increase translation skills
- Available to choose translation tools and apps
- Opportunity for use open courses
- Freedom to learn without being restricted by distance
- It is good way for modern intensive education.
Human translators are in control of translating, editing and proofreading on the CAT tools platform. The purpose of CAT tools technology is to assist translators in working more productively and producing high quality translations and not to substitute human translator’s job. Sin - Wai [3] elucidates that translation technology is used by students actively. It is supported students’ attitude of usage AI due to due growth modern technologies.
The study was based on students’ real experiences during translation practices. Frequent use of AI translation helped to find translation mistakes such as incorrect translation and incorrect equivalents. Furthermore, how to find or choose suitable terms or their context-appropriate equivalents. The students were better able to interpret the meaning of the course material into the target text. The inadequate translation prompted students to revise their translations. To select the right translation, a wide variety of translation options and versions are available. Although these translations required thinking and discussion, they were also a good way to improve translation skills. Translation tools and training programs not only keep pace with new AI technologies, but they are also a main necessity to develop their skills at using and introducing future training. Therefore, digital media and multilingual platforms support increasing translation exercises and practices.
Conclusion
AI translation technology has significantly improved the speed and accessibility of the translation process. It fulfills important requirements of modern technology, particularly efficiency and time saving. Translation technology has some disadvantages and advantages, but it has more benefits for acquiring translation skills.
They provide exceptional effectiveness and ease of use to guarantee sufficient translations that are correct and appropriate. Innovative tools such as ChatGPT have increased users’ interest and provide access to extensive translation databases and accurate equivalents that help convey meaning effectively. As a result, AI translation technology meets the demands of modern education by enabling flexible and accessible learning opportunities regardless of distance. Therefore, educational institutions should recognize the value of these technologies and encourage their appropriate integration into teaching and learning practices in the digital era.
