ABSTRACT
Information about the actual nutrition of the population of Afghanistan are missing. 33 % of children under 5 years are underweight. Grain productivity is low due to drought. Grain is contaminated with weed seeds, causes outbreaks of veno-occlusal disease (Gulran-disease). One third of the population lives below the poverty line. Social stratification exacerbates health problems.
